VIEW VIDEO TRIBUTEDorothy Ellen Walter (Phillips) born January 13 1915 passed away on September 15 2009 in Oberlin Ohio. Dorothy was predeceased by her beloved husband Edwin Charles Walter of Akron Ohio brother Donald Phillips and sisters Doris Babson and Juanita Phillips. She was born and raised in Clarksfield Ohio. After graduating from North Fairfield High School she earned her RN degree at Mount Sinai Hospital School of Nursing. She also received her Associate of Arts degree from Western Reserve now known as Case Western Reserve in Cleveland where she met Ed. They were married July 21 1940 and raised their children in Cleveland Detroit and Chicago. Dorothy was an avid reader who loved her gardens and plants. After moving to Akron in retirement she took up painting and enjoyed watching birds. She maintained long affiliations with the Highland Square Seniors St. Vincent Church and the Women's Board of St. Thomas Hospital. Dorothy spent her final years at Welcome Nursing Home in Oberlin Ohio. Dorothy is survived by her seven children: Nancy (John) Plancon Suzanne (Roy) Linenberg Phyllis (Albert) Christensen David (Hilda) Margaret Healy Stephen (Bettie) and Dorothy (Geoff) Fox 27 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. Dorothy is also survived by one brother Dana Phillips of Willard Ohio brothers- and sisters-in-law and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be at Hummel Funeral Home 3475 Copley Rd COPLEY OH on Thursday from 4-8 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St Vincent Church 164 W. Market St Akron on Friday September 18 2009 at 10:30 AM. Interment in Holy Cross Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations in Dorothy's memory may be made to Welcome Nursing Home Activities 417 S. Main St. Oberlin OH 44074 or New Life Hospice 5255 N. Abbe Rd Sheffield Village OH 44035-1451.
