Doris Hutchins

Doris Hutchins nee Oliver and a member of the Shaw Family which dates back to the 1800s in Cuyahoga Falls went home to be with the Lord on Saturday August 25 with her family by her side one day before her 92nd birthday. After the death of her husband Paul Hutchins in 1982 Doris remained a strong independent woman who lived an active fulfilling life surrounded by family and friends. Doris graduated from Kenmore High School and Hammel Business College. During WWII she volunteered with the Civilian Air Defense and the American Red Cross prior to working in the Purchasing Department of General Tire and later retiring from the Cuyahoga Falls High School Library in the late 1970s. Doris was mother to Kathleen A. Brittain (Richard) and Gene Hutchins (Laura); grandmother to Michael Brittain of Akron Steven Brittain (Betsy) of Akron Kevin Brittain (Maren Ammerman) of Greensboro NC and David Hutchins (Dawn) and Frank Hutchins of Cuyahoga Falls; and great-grandmother to Jacob and Taylor Brittain and Kylie Jeremy and Katie Hutchins. Doris is also survived by niece Connie Woods (Michael) and nephew Ken Oliver. In addition to her husband Doris was also proceeded in death by her brother Kenneth J. Oliver and sister-in-law Helen (Bonnie) Oliver. An avid reader and traveler Doris traveled worldwide with her husband friends and fellow Falls Travel Club members including some of her favorite destinations: Europe Costa Rica Hawaii and the Panama Canal. She loved needlework and playing cards especially with her 'bridge ladies' of more than 55 years. In her later years Doris was a member of Cuyahoga Falls Women's Club Widows to Widowers and the United Methodist Church (in Cuyahoga Falls) Nova Class; and volunteered at Akron General Medical Center on the 7th floor for more than 15 years making candy trees sold in the gift shop as part of the Women's Board Projects. And most of all anyone who knew her was well aware that she loved to spend her summers at 'her little house on Torch Lake' in Northern Michigan. The family wishes to thank all the caregivers on 3200 P.C.U. at AGMC for their kindness compassion and care in her time of need. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 11 am on Friday September 7 2007 at the First United Methodist Church at 245 Portage Trail in Cuyahoga Falls. There will be a celebration of Doris' life following the service at the church. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to Open M Lunch in care of First United Methodist Church of Cuyahoga Falls or a charity of your choice.
