Donald Stanley Majdanik passed away peacefully on August 1, 2026 in Akron, Ohio at the age of 92.

He was born in Oil City, Pennsylvania and graduated from Carnegie Institute of Technology College of Engineering. He was a veteran of the US Army and served in the 18th Engineer Combat Battalion. He married Barbara Gardiner in 1960 and they moved to Kenosha, Wisconsin. Don then accepted a job at Boeing Aircraft and he and Barbara then moved to Seattle WA, Great Falls MT, and then returned to Akron.

Don was a talker and a jokester. Every friend or stranger was a potential willing ear to hear his myriad tales; some (many) of the tales were tall--but tall or small (long or short), most of them were pretty funny. He loved to travel and went all over the world, driving his kids crazy in his later years by sitting them down for an hour or so to show them tons of travel photos that were filled with buildings and hardly any people-a true civil engineer to the very end. Now the crazy times with "The Don" are ended and we're all left a little emptier by his absence.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara, and their children Jocelyn (Gregg) Whisler of Richmond VA, Teresa (Joseph) Kastelic of Houston TX, John of Indianapolis IN, and Kathryn (Greg) Obringer of Akron OH. He is also survived by nine grandchildren: Ryan, Rachel, Mary Claire, Michael, Jacqueline, Brian, Joey, Annmarie and Zoe, as well as five great-grandchildren: Ben, Josh, Caitlin, Alma Rose, and Sadie. Don is also survived by his two sisters, Mary Virginia Kosnosky and Cynthia Orr.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Stanley and Genevieve, and his son, Stephen.

Friends and family may call on Tuesday, August 11 from 12 - 1:00 pm at Hummel Funeral Home, 2800 W. Market Street. A prayer service conducted by Fr. Joseph Ho will immediately follow. In accordance with Don's wishes, cremation has taken place. Interment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery following the service
