Don Legg

Don Dale Legg, 71, of Coventry Twp passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by family on November 24, 2020. He was born December 29, 1948 in Gauley Bridge, WVA, the son of Edwin Legg and Geraldine Cooper. Don attended North High School and ultimately graduated with his GED while in the 101st Airborne division of the US Army. He served alongside many brothers in arms in the Vietnam War and enjoyed his annual reunions with them. He was very happy to reconnect with his dear friend John Stillman and his wonderful wife, Ree after 40+ years with no contact since Vietnam. During the War, Don was a Private First Class, 1st/502 infantry of the 101st Airborne where he served as a paratrooper and carried an M60 machine gun. He earned a Sharpshooter Rifle Expert Badge M60, Sharpshooter Badge M16, Parachute Badge, Jump Wings, Vietnam Service Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal and Purple Heart Oak Leaf Cluster (which means he earned two purple hearts) for his dedication and sacrifice. After the war, Don went to trade school for HVAC and retired after working for Summa Akron City Hospital for 11 years. During his time on Earth, Don enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Don also enjoyed crafting model airplanes, painting, and creating beautiful works of art. Don was the "kindest, grumpiest man," and will be remembered by all for his passion for his family and his country. Don was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin (Betty) Legg and Geraldine (Boyd) Thomas, his children Dawn Marie Legg, Shane Patrick Legg and Joshua Roy Legg, sister Leigh Jennings, and sister-in-law Peggy McGonigal. Don is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Cindee Legg. He is also survived by his children Don D. Legg II (Christina), Deven (Tiffany) Legg and Deserae DeeAnn Legg; twelve grandchildren, Tailor Adorni, Jordan Legg, Austin Legg, Makayla Legg, Deven Legg, Kendall Legg, Max Legg, Serenity Legg, Peyton Legg, Joshua Legg, Mason Legg, and Logan Legg, his "grand-dog" Sophie; siblings Diana (John) Faulconer, Ronnie Legg, David Legg, Debbie (Tom) Cunningham, Mike (Brenda) Legg, Missy (Rob) Legg, Eddie (Stacey) Legg, Ricky (Diana) Thomas, Patricia (Richard) Kelly, Michael (Kim) Thomas, John Allen (Carole) Thomas; many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. A memorial service will be held at 1pm at Cottage Grove E.C Church (3133 Cottage Grove Rd. Akron, OH 44319) on Saturday, December 19, 2020 with Pastor John Friedlund officiating. Friends and family may call an hour before services begin.
