Dick Maloyan

Richard Maloyan passed away peacefully on Nov. 29 2011. He was born on Sept. 26 1929 in Akron Ohio and was preceded in death by his parents Haig and Baytzar Maloyan as well as his sister Anne. Dick is survived by his loving wife of 52 years Nancy (Karg) their children Julie (John) Strohmeyer Richard H. (Patty) Maloyan and Amy (David) Kweder. Dick's grandchildren - Peter Taylor Lydia and William Strohmeyer and Andrew Kweder - were a special source of pride to him. He is also survived by sister Adrienne of Fresno CA and Ruben Maloyan of Columbus OH. In addition he leaves a beloved extended family of nieces nephews and in-laws as well as many dear friends. After graduating from Akron Central High School in 1947 Dick enlisted in the U.S. Army. He would be accepted into Officer Candidate School in Ft. Riley and was discharged in 1952. Upon his return to Akron Dick graduated from The University of Akron where he was president of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity. After several years with the M. O'Neil Company Dick launched a career in life insurance. In 1967 he established Maloyan Associates. Dick also founded the Provident Oil & Gas Co. which he operated from 1981 through 1992. A parishioner at St. Sebastian's Catholic Church he loved music and performed with the University of Akron Symphony Orchestra. Dick also played for many years in popular and jazz groups primarily with his friend Gene Fiocca. Mullie as he was called by his friends enjoyed playing golf and gin at Fairlawn Country Club. His sense of humor and ability to tell a great joke - as well as his legendary culinary skills - will be missed my many. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday December 5 2011 at St. Sebastian Catholic Church 476 Mull Ave Akron. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the Mass. Private burial will take place at Ohio Western National Cemetery.
