David Humphrey

December 15, 1946 — October 24, 2022

David R. Humphrey, 75, of Akron, Ohio, passed away October 24, 2022. He is survived by his loving wife of 16 years, Verna Humphrey; his brother, Kenneth (Joy) Humphrey; his sons, Jason (Rachelle) and Joshua (Samantha) Humphrey; his daughters, Angela Greenlee and Kelly (Wes) Morrison and Family; his 8 grandchildren (including Christopher, Justis, Jackson, Sydney, & Benjamin), along with 9 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by his mother Marjorie ("Wendy"), his father Kenneth, his stepmother Betty, his brother Patrick, and his grandson Jordan.

Dave graduated from Akron North High School in 1964, and he served his country in the Vietnam War as a service member in the US Navy. Known for his honesty, quick wit, and courage, his absence in our lives will be felt for some time. He loved to compete and participated in softball, golf, horseshoe, darts and pool leagues throughout his life. He was one of a kind, and lived a life filled with love and adventures. It was a joy to be in his company. Dave was an active member of various social clubs in the greater Akron Area, including the VFW (#1062), American Legion (#566), the Legion Riders Post 566, the Eagles (#2736), and the PLAV (#32).

Private services were held for his family, and cremation has taken place. He will have a military burial service at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman, Ohio, in the Spring of 2023. A celebration of life event will be held at the American Legion Post 566 (2974 Cormany Rd; Akron, OH 44319), on Saturday, December 3, 2022, starting at 4pm. In lieu of donations or flowers, shots of Jose Cuervo may be ordered in his honor at your local gatherings.
