Carol Walter

December 21, 1940 — April 23, 2023

Carol Ann (Whatmough) Walter (12/21/1940 - 04/23/2023 )

Carol A. Walter, 82, of Copley Ohio, passed peacefully on Sunday, April 23, 2023.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, James L Walter; daughter, Jennifer L. Marco; Brother, Daniel Whatmough; Parents, Albert and Catherine Whatmough.

She is survived by her children, Cathleen Walter-Carden (Robert) of Surf City, NC; J. Christopher Walter, of Akron, Ohio; J. Laura Franchetti (Charles) of Fairlawn Ohio; grandchildren, Dean Marco, Jr (Janet) of Mission, TX; Danielle and Morgan Carden; Charles and Maddalena Franchetti; sister Mary (Harold) Howes of Freeport, Ohio; and many dear nephews, nieces, cousins and dear friends, including her best friends from childhood, Barb and Karen.

Carol was a force to be reckoned with. She grew up in Coventry, on the Portage Lakes and graduated in 1962 from Notre Dame College of Ohio. She was an independent, feisty woman with a gift for sewing and painting.

After meeting her husband in 1963, a story she loved to tell, they married in May of 1964. They lived their life in Copley, Ohio. A devoted member of Guardian Angels, they were one of the founding families of the Parish

She worked may jobs, including as a master seamstress for Stretch-N-Sew, in her early years. Her skill with the sewing machine was a gift her whole life, as she made dozens of outfits, formal dresses, and even co-operated a cloth diaper business. She was always painting, cross-stitching, quilting, or sewing some project to give to a loved one.

Bowling and card playing were big parts of Carol's life and she was very active in her parish community for many years. Nothing brought her more joy, however, than spending time with family and friends. From watching her children and grandchildren excel in their sports and activities, to playing cards with her bridge group and euchre with anyone willing to play, she was there with a smile on her face, laughing and joking around.

In her later years, she truly cherished the time that she spent with those around her, loving neighbors and family who helped her through difficult losses and transitions. As a person who didn't 'need' anything material, this is what she held close to her heart. The willingness to just be present. If there were any words of wisdom she could offer anyone now, it would be to present in your loved ones lives. Make the time, make the effort, make the memories.

Although she insisted, for decades, that the family play 'Ding, Dong, The Witch is Dead' from the Wizard of Oz, we won't. BUT, we will pay with snap-its, as she loved throwing those things on the ground whenever we had them. And we'll be toasting with Bailey's, her favorite, while playing Euchre. It's the little things.

Funeral service will be 11:00am Thursday, April 27, at Hummel Funeral Home, 3475 Copley Rd. Copley, Ohio, where visitation will be one hour prior. Interment to follow at Copley Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family would like to ask that donations be made, in Carol's memory, to the Alzheimer's Association or One of a Kind Pets in Akron Ohio.
