Obituary

Bonnie Lynn Childs, 79, passed away peacefully at home on August 14th, 2026 after fighting a courageous uphill battle from a stroke suffered nearly two years ago.

She displayed and kept a positive, upbeat spirit throughout her debilitating ordeal. Her humility, humor, and concern for others never faded, and remained constant until the end.

Born to parents from England and Scotland, Bonnie was a lifelong resident of Akron. She graduated from Kenmore High School, where she met her high school sweetheart, John. They both would later attend and graduate from the University of Akron.

Her greatest joys in life were her friends and family. She was a compassionate, patient, loving, and thoughtful mother to her two sons, John and Aaron. She was a supportive, cherished life partner to her husband John for 57 years. She was a friend to hundreds, and impacted many more along her journey.

Bonnie was a world traveler alongside her husband John. The two traveled the globe together, visiting places such as Egypt, China, Turkey, France, Italy and most recently Alaska. Her other interests involved gardening, volunteering, cooking, hosting events, and winding down the day with a good book and glass of chardonnay.

She had a resounding commitment to her community. Bonnie served on the boards for Akron Children's Hospital, Family Services, White Hat, Life Skills and Hope Academy. She was a member of the Junior League of Akron and was involved in many other organizations and volunteer projects.

After college, she became a grade school teacher and loved her years spent teaching children. She found her life's work at Old Trail School, where she was a volunteer and board member. She later became the Director of Special Events and Parent Relations for the school.

Bonnie is survived by her husband, John; sons, John and Aaron; sister, Margaret Mosser (Fred); brother and sister-in-law, Joel and Carol Childs; brother and sister-in-law, Donald(Lee) and Marian Childs; sister-in-law, Sheila Childs; sister-in-law, Chris Sellars; and two cats, Avery and Asher. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Margaret Sellars; brother, Thomas Sellars, and brother-in-law David Childs.

The family wishes to send a special thank you to: Kathy and Michael Lehr, Becky and Bill Considine and Jancie and Bill Newhouse, as well as her amazing home care team.
