VIEW MEMORIAL PHOTO TRIBUTE Bart J. Brennan 83 passed away peacefully on March 24 2008 at the Hospice Care Center. Bart was born in Akron and a lifelong resident of the area. He was fiercely proud of his Irish heritage: He made10 trips to Ireland; he dressed from head to toe in green and marched in 17 of Akron's St. Patrick's Day parades and made other leprechaun appearances. Bart was an alumnus of St. Vincent High School a member of their booster club and rarely missed a home football game. You'd see him with his Irish walking stick and green Hibernian jacket as he made his way up the bleachers. Each Saturday in the fall was reserved for watching the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame his other love. He was also an avid golfer. Bart served his country in the U.S. Army as a paratrooper and was stationed in the Philippines and Japan during World War II. Bart retired from Firestone Tire and Rubber Company after 44 years of service but maintained contact with his friends attending a monthly Retirees' Breakfast Club. He was also a long standing member of Canton's Football Hall of Fame Luncheon Club sitting each Monday with a group of special friends who doted on him. For years he played poker with another group of lifelong friends. He was a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians and Knights of Columbus. Bart was infamously known for his sense of humor his generosity care and love of others especially the elderly. His promise of ice cream cones from Mary Coyle's to all his nieces and nephews was legendary. Bart was preceded in death by his parents Margaret and Bart; wife Jean; siblings Patricia (Lynch) Reverend Robert Daniel Eileen (Dunbar/Duffy) Jean (Murray) and Richard. He is survived by his children: Kathleen Reverend Terry and Rob; granddaughter Erin; step-grandchildren Nathan and Chelsea Blackerby and Narayan and Danavir White; siblings: MaryAnn (Larry) Shay and Edward (Cecile) Brennan; sisters-in-law Mary and Ruth (Spencer); brother/sister-in law Charles (Helen) Derck; sweetheart Marianne and a host of beloved nieces nephews and friends. Mass of Christian Burial is Friday March 28 at 10 a.m. at Christ the King Church 1558 Creighton Ave. Friends may call on Thursday from 5-8 p.m. at Hummel Funeral Home 500 E. Exchange St Akron. Donations may be made to Christ the King Memorial Trust.
