Andrew John Burge, 33, of Akron died Thursday September 4, 2025. He was born and raised in Akron, beloved son of Alan R. and Lauren (Pinney) Burge. He was the best pal of his big sister Rachel. Andrew attended St Sebastian Parish School and was a graduate of Walsh Jesuit High School. He studied Electronic Media at the University of Cincinnati.
Andrew enjoyed hiking from a young age and in adulthood took to rucking in the Summit MetroParks and Cuyahoga Valley National Park. Andrew managed his family's wine importing business and many customers loved him for his positive attitude on life and every day smile.
Andrew was a lover of history, art, music, literature, and philosophy and could carry on a conversation on nearly any topic. He played guitar and wrote his own music. He also dabbled in playing the violin, ukelele, bass, keyboard, accordion and theremin. He wrote short stories, contributing several to popular podcasts. He recently completed a novella. He was an excellent chess player and enjoyed teaching his younger cousins using his grandfather's vintage set. Recently, he honed his skills in online matches. Andrew loved languages and over his lifetime studied Latin, French, Russian, Italian, Hebrew, and Esperanto. He was often heard singing or playing songs from around world.
Andrew's greatest gift was his amazing wit. Above all else he loved making everyone laugh and putting a smile on the face of each person he met. Area comics and comedy audiences knew him for his quirky and witty humor. He started his comedic venture doing open mic nights at the Daily Pressed in Akron, and became a frequent performer of his special brand of Stand Up at KrackPots in Massillon, and the Canton Comedy Boom, as well as clubs in Cleveland, Youngstown, and Indianapolis. He always supported his fellow comics and loved his comedy community. He was a founding member of the Improv Troupe, Brain Farts Royale. He will be dearly missed by all of the area comedians, especially his fellow Brain Farts, Gabe, Trevor, Eric, and Bob.
Andrew was preceded in death by his grandparents Ruth and Donald Burge, and Eugene and Barbara Pinney. He will be dearly missed by his parents, sister Rachel (Danny) Gigot, nieces Louise and Frances, and nephew Henry. He leaves behind many aunts and uncles and cousins, who all loved him and thought of him as the life of the party.
Andrew was brilliant, creative, kind, funny, and would do anything to help anyone. We have lost, but Heaven has gained.
Calling hours will be 4-7pm Thursday, Sept 11, at Hummel Funeral Home 2800 W. Market St. Fairlawn and one hour prior to Mass on Friday, Sept. 12, at St. Sebastian Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00am Friday, Sept. 12, at St Sebastian Church, 476 Mull Ave. Akron. Private interment at All Souls Cemetery in Cortland Ohio.
