Brenda Hummel

Brenda Leoma Hummel (Bolen), 74 years old, passed away on September 14, 2021. She was born in Akron, on January 11, 1947 where she graduated from East High School in 1965.

In 1967 she became a dance instructor with the Arthur Murray Dance Studios where she taught for 4 years. On April 4, 1970 she married Richard Hummel whom she met through her brother Ken. In 1980 they moved to Cuyahoga Falls where Brenda enjoyed being a stay at home mom and an Avon representative for 25 years.

She attended the University of Akron with the focus on continuing education and sign language. In 1989 she started working in the Cuyahoga Falls School System where the majority of her 22 years were spent working with children with special needs.

Brenda had a fun-loving side to her and a beautiful smile that she shared with friends and strangers, and she had a funny sense of humor. She was a caring, loving wife, mother, and grandmother, where she had a special place in her heart for each of them. Brenda was a kind and giving person and enjoyed giving to many charities.

Starting in the late 7O's into the mid 80's along with her husband coached little league baseball. She also was involved in Girl Scouts and enjoyed spending time as a room mother and a school volunteer.

She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church where she sang in the choir. She was also a member of The Akron Christ Child Society for 16 years.

Preceded in death by her parents Thelma and Eugene (Dorothy) Bolen. Brenda is survived by her husband of 51 years Richard Hummel; children Richard (Leah) Hummel, Lisa (Al) Romanini, James (Dana) Hummel, and Joseph Hummel; 9 grandchildren Allisa, Anthony, Abigail, Alex, Ethan, Allison, Samantha, Victoria and Olivia; brothers Ken (Carrie) Bolen and Rick Bolen and stepsister Carol (Bob) Stella and many other family and friends.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30am, Monday, September 27, 2021 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1761 2nd St, Cuyahoga Falls. Internment to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4-7pm, Sunday, September 26, 2021 at Hummel Funeral Home, 500 E. Exchange St. Akron. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Autism Society of Greater Akron.
